Overview.
This 8-day Gobi-and-Karakorum tour combines the core Gobi Desert loop, Tsagaan Suvarga, Yoliin Am ice canyon, the Khongor Singing Dunes with Bactrian camel riding, and the Bayanzag Flaming Cliffs, with two days at Karakorum and Erdene Zuu Monastery on the return. Karakorum was the 13th-century capital of the Mongol Empire under Chinggis Khan's grandson Ögedei; the city was abandoned in the 1380s and built over with Erdene Zuu Monastery in 1586, Mongolia's oldest standing Buddhist monastery, with 108 white stupas around the compound. The 8-day is the shorter of our two Gobi-plus-Karakorum tours and the right choice when you want both the desert south and the imperial heart of Mongolia in a single trip without committing to the 9 or 10 day variants.
